How to make a lacrosse pocket

There are two types of lacrosse pockets, mesh pockets and leather string pockets. The majority of sticks today have switched to mesh because it offers better handling.
1. First, take the shooting strings out because you do not want them to stretch.
2. Put the mesh in hot water to allow it to stretch.
Hint: You want to string a lacrosse pocket so that it can be as large as possible without being illegal. An illegal lacrosse pocket is one in which the ball sit so deep, it does not come to the bottom of the head. Also a head that is pinched at the base of the head can also be illegal.
3. With the mesh wet, stretch with a ball for at least 20 to 30 minutes but up to 24 hours.
Tip: Some suggest using conditioner or an egg white on your pocket, this will make it a little stiffer. You may need to dry it into the mesh afterwards with a hair dryer.
Tip #2: Knife and ball trick. Use a butter knife and a ball to stretch you pocket overnight. Place the knife through to inside of the head and force the ball deeper into the lacrosse pocket.
4. When the pocket is dry, take the ball out and pound it in front to loosen up the pocket and to make sure it is still legal.
5. Test it with a friend or on an unlucky goalie.

What brand of lacrosse ball and for what price?

Are looking for a good lacrosse balls?
Warrior, Brine and STX all make very good lacrosse balls. Balls for regular outdoor use are made out of hard rubber. The first time I got hit with a ball I was amazed at how hard it really was. (No wonder they call it a rock.) Plus the second time the ball bounces, it takes off in a crazy direction. So never let it bounce more than once.
Today they have several different types of quality lacrosse balls to choose from. They have outdoor (white), indoor soft (pink), and the limited bounce balls (orange).
To find a good ball you should probably buy a name brand. Avoid balls that are cracked or don’t bounce properly. You can buy a name brand lacrosse ball for $2-$3 individually, less if you buy them in bulk. You can also buy a professional ball for size and weight for around $20.
A good ball will last you for a couple of years. It’s good to have a bunch of balls so that they are harder to lose and so that you can practice shooting on an open goal. It may also be a good to write your first initial on the ball so you can take it home at the end of playing. You usually want to carry between 3 and 12 in your lacrosse bag and any given time because you never know when you might find an open net.

Men’s Lacrosse is a brutal game, but that is what makes it so fun. It is a contact sport with a capital C. That is why choosing a durable lacrosse helmet is so important. Lacrosse helmets protect the face and the head. More advanced helmet will also protect the chin. When an opponent hits you helmet with their stick it is called slashing. This is one of the most common penalties which make helmets important. The faceguard protects you from scratches, busies and cuts to your face and eyes.
A custom lacrosse helmet can be made out of chrome. Other helmets are made out of titanium, steel or aluminum. The first helmets were made out of leather and hard plastics. Metal helmets with Styrofoam inserts are actually quite a bit lighter.
Brine lacrosse helmets are well made and very durable. Other helmet manufacturers include warrior, Riddell, and cascade. If you want a used lacrosse helmet you could try a used sports store. However, there inventory is outdated but their prices are not. For a few dollars more you could buy something a lot better, new.Whether you are purchasing a lacrosse helmet in an adult or a youth size, you will find that buying the best quality generally worth the investment. It’s not like wearing a bike helmet, you may never need, because with lacrosse you will need it every time you touch the ball. Your helmet will get scratched and dented it is just part of playing the game.

Lacrosse Shafts

So many Quality Lacrosse Shafts to choose from . . .
If you have gotten checked by an old school wooden lacrosse shaft recently, you may be happy we don’t use them anymore. Mostly we have switched to scandium, titanium, or other light-weight metal alloys. Every lacrosse stick is composed of a head and a shaft.
Even though you can sometimes buy a head and a lacrosse shaft together, most players opt to buy them separately so that can get a higher quality of each. The best shafts are octagonal and not round. This allows you to get the best grip from 8 different positions. This is important because without a good grip you can lose your stick very easily and not be as accurate when you shoot.
Attack men’s lacrosse shafts are very short and light. They are designed to be very quick. In fact, they have made they have made them so light weight they get broken all time at college level. A defensemen has a longer, stronger shaft. We used to use graphite, than aluminum, than titanium alloy, but now there are even more choices.
Quality lacrosse shafts and manufactured by many companies including STX, Brine, deBeer, Warrior and many others. They are available for any level of experience or skill. Many companies will can custom make a shaft to your specificities of size and weight. As a long stick, I used a $3 hacksaw to cut a few inches off my stick for better performance.
Women’s lacrosse shafts are often shorter than men’s. All hollow shafts must have a protective rubber butt. This gives you a better grip but it is mostly to protect your opponent. Hockey style grip wrapping are fun for poke checking but illegal.
