Which Lacrosse Stick is best for you?

There are several different types of lacrosse heads, but only three different types of lacrosse sticks to choose from. First, you need to know if you need an attack stick, a defensive stick, or goalie stick. Attack and Midfield typically use shorter sticks. They are designed for shooting or passing. They are short so they can be easier to cradle and not lose the ball.
Defensive lacrosse sticks are long sticks. Defensive heads are designed for intercepting passes and picking up ground balls. A defensive stick may also need to be more durable since you will constantly be using your stick to beat the other player. The purpose of using a long stick as a defenseman is to force your opponents to shoot from further away, decreasing chances of scoring & to keep attackmen behind the goal. It also makes it harder for your opponent to get past you (without a lot of bruises anyway J). A good defense stick can also get you closer to the ball when it goes out of bounds giving your team the ball. When the ball goes out of bounds hold your stick out as far as you can and if you’re quick – you should always be the one getting the ball not the attackmen from the other team with their short sticks.
Attack & Middie Sticks are shorter and lighter. Attack heads can be pinched in order to make them shoot and pass more accurately. Shorter sticks allow them to pass & shoot more quickly. You used to never see any broken lacrosse sticks, but now they make them so light that they break a lot more easily. It’s a give and take since the lighter they are, the easier they are to use, but you will have replace them more often – especially if you are playing tough defensive teams.
